British Designers Collective Bicester Village Outlet Shopping

Sorry I haven't had much time to post recently but I have started a new job in London. I'm still getting used to the daily commute, I'm loving my new job and I look forward to sharing more with you all soon.

If you haven't heard about Bicester Village before you are in for a real treat. I always plan a weekly trip here to stock up on a few goodies, and a good browse around the Vivienne Westwood Store.

Enjoy savings off up to 60% on the RRP price at over 130 top named boutiques.

I'm lucky, I only live about a 45 minutes drive from Bicester Village which is in Bicester in the heart of Oxfordshire.

You'll find everything here from Alexander Mcqueen, Dior, Prada, Celine, Gucci, Paul Smith, Mulberry, D&G, Fendi, and my favourite Vivienne Westwood & Emma Bridgewater


The list is endless.

I usually have a whole day of shopping followed by a meal at the Busaba Eathai Resturant in the village.

It's definitely worth a visit down to Bicester at  the moment as they have launched their British Designers Collective. For eight weeks they have a pop up store where top UK designers, both established and emerging, showcase their iconic pieces and offer them for sale with up to 60% off.

You'll see from the pictures they have pieces by Jonathan Saunders, House of Holland, Roksanda Ilincic and Mary Katrantzou and up-and-coming designers such as Lucas Nascimento, Mawi and Piers Atkinson.

Vivienne Westwood Worlds End

Worlds End in Kings Road, London can only be described as a treasure chest.

It wasn't until 1980 the shop at 430 Kings Road was reopened under the name Worlds End, taken from the name of a pub that stood at that end of the Kings Road.
 

In October 1971 Malcolm Mclaren had amassed a collection of records from Brick Lane and opened a stall at the back of a vintage American clothing store called Paradise Garage selling Rock & Roll vinyl records.

In November of 1971 they took over the entire premises renaming the shop Let It Rock and selling Teddy Boy Clothes designed by Vivienne Westwood. 

In 1972 the outlet interior was changed and the shop was given a new name Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die, branded with a skull and crossbones, they introduced second hand jeans, pegged trousers, leather and double breasted Zoot suits amongst many other things. The Shop went under another refurbishment in 1974 and was branded the name Sex. Sex sold fetish and bondage wear and the band The Sex Pistols got their name, their clothing and their start here.

In 1976 the shop was renamed Seditionaires, the shop supplied the clothing identity for the punk movement. trading under that name until 1980.

Vivienne Westwood launched her first collections from here. Although the pirates clothes had already been on sale at Worlds End, they were shown as the first collection on the catwalk at Olympia in 1981.

Worlds End was designed to resemble an 18th Century galleon with the floor raked at an angle. The outside exterior has a large clock which spins backwards representing going back in time.

This store is very different to the other +Vivienne Westwood  stores and is definitely worth a visit. 

The Worlds End Collection is a range put together personally by Vivienne Westwood in which she has selected her favourite pieces from the Westwood archives. My favourite is the Pirate Squiggle top and is available here in many colours. The collection makes use of leftover fabrics and off-cuts from previous seasons to minimise the squandering of the earth’s resources. The prices of the collection have been kept as low as possible in order for it to be affordable to as many people as possible.   Vivienne especially wants young people to be able to afford pieces from this line so they can wear her designs even if they can’t afford pieces from her main line.They also stock some Lee Denim, Anglomonia and Gold Label here.

Worlds End continue to issue their classic designs and accessories, they have no need to cost in those months of development work.

• Sell direct, which cuts out extra mark-up.
• Use their left-over fabrics; these were originally more expensive.
• Extract a new design out of the Gold Label collection and sell direct through Worlds End.
• Samples, toiles, show jewellery and accessories.

I also bought of a set of pin badges. The pin badge sets are priced at £28.00 each, and a set of six badges is priced at £15 for the set. There is something here for everyone's budget.

With a shop full of gorgeous things to try and very friendly and helpful staff,  I think I'll be visiting every chance I get.

Please bear in mind Worlds End is closed on a Sunday, I've made that mistake before.

The nearest London underground station will be Sloane Square and it's about a 15-20 minute walk from there.

Paul Smith & David Bowie

With the launch of  Bowie's much-anticipated album The Next Day on Monday 11th March, Paul Smith has launched a special T-shirt to celebrate the release. Paul and David have been long time friends.

The artwork is from the cover of the new album designed by Jonathan Barnbrook and printed on organic cotton.

Vivienne Westwood Climate Revolution Face Mob Day London

On Saturday 2nd March everyone was invited to wear Vivienne Westwood's Face Of War and to join the Climate Revolution.

The Face of War is Vivienne's symbol of the need for a climate revolution.  The Face is a circle around the left eye and a sad smile drawn above the top lip depicting a sad face. The idea was inspired and adopted from Boudicca (the Queen of Iceni) who used a specific dye called woad as face paint, (a very dark blue almost black dye) which herself and her troops wore in their battle with the Romans.

This is extensively used on Vivienne Westwood catwalks and she wore it herself for the closing ceremony of the paralympics.

The Face of War is an expression that new change is needed, and by wearing your Face Of War you are showing the world that you want a different future, one that belongs to you.

If you are disheartened with the financial system, want to do something to save the planet, fight for human rights or if you are just fed up with the propaganda then this event was for you.

 “We have a real chance to win this fight if we stop our delayed thinking, seeing everything with old eyes. It’s time to make our voices heard – on the streets, through social media.” said Westwood.

According to the designer, the earth can no longer “run for profit and waste and based primarily on the extractive industries” and the current financial crises is here to prove that changes will have to be made by all.

Westwood believes that in order to stop climate changes “we need a formal inauguration of the Revolution and a plan of operation.”

The plan of operation consists of recognising the connection between climate change and the current financial crises, implement Arctic Commons and Save the Rainforest, make use of clean energy sources such as nuclear energy and set strict rules limiting the exploitation of the planet’s natural resources. Westwood informed that a cabinet of operations will be formed in order to officially get the Climate Revolution going.

The designer added “many people have changed their way of living. The more this happens, the greater the Revolution, the greater the chance of saving our planet."

British Artist Daniel Lismore was on hand to paint on your Face Of War.
